WPML Media Translation:

WPML Media Translation plugin allows to choose images and other media for translated content. You will be able to provide replacement images for content in different languages and translate the meta texts of those images.

Understanding When to Use WPML Media Translation

Only install and activate the WPML Media Translation plugin if you plan on using separate images for posts, pages, and post types in different languages.

Using Different Images and Media Across Languages

Avoid manually editing translated content through the WordPress post editor when using WPML‘s Translation Management and displaying different images. Doing so will result in the loss of edits during subsequent Translation Management updates.

Note: Entering a translated image filename in the Name field in Media Translation will have no effect. Translating image meta information is only possible while translating the rest of the content on a post or page.

The suggested translation options are selected by default. If needed, you can make changes to these options. Below, we briefly explain each option.

1. Existing media content
   • Set language information for existing media – sets the default language as the default language for existing media. This is something you should do if you want to use WPML Media Translation.
   • Translate existing media in all languages – duplicates existing media into all languages.
   • Duplicate existing media for translated content – goes through all existing content. If there is a translation and the content has media, it will update the translated content with the corresponding translated media.
   • Duplicate the featured images for translated content – goes through all existing content. If there is a translation and the content has featured images, it will update the translated content with the corresponding featured images.

2. New media content
   • When uploading media to the Media Library, make it available in all languages – duplicates newly uploaded media so that it is available in all languages.
   • Duplicate media attachments for translations – duplicates newly uploaded media so that it can be translated.
   • Duplicate featured images for translations – duplicates newly uploaded featured image so that it can be translated

3. Media library texts
   • Translate media library texts with posts – allows you to translate all the text you add to your image in the Media Library, including the image description.
